Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe

MUSIC UNITES – LIMITLESS. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe - POE - is an excellent, versatile, innovative and socially engaged symphony orchestra performing at an international top level.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe was first formed in 1996 as part of a cross-border Chamber Music Festival and founded as Deutsch-Niederländische KammerPhilharmonie [German Dutch Chamber Philharmonic] in 2004.

A new chapter began in 2012 with a new management and a new name for the orchestra: the former Deutsch-Niederländische KammerPhilharmonie was named Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe. The name reflects the considerably larger formation as well as the variety of the musicians and their nationalities from almost 20 country´s. Today the 80 musicians appear ranging from chamberorchestra repertoire to large-scale orchestral concerts with the symphonies by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner and Mahler.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe enjoys the highest artistic standards and consists of some of the finest European musicians from the younger generation. The musicians pursue careers as soloists, are members of notable chamber ensembles, or hold principal positions in leading orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House London. Each season they enjoy playing with the POE for a few tours and projects to rehearse and experience afresh a symphonic repertoire free from workaday regimentation and routine.

The soloists and chamber music partners of the POE play in all the world’s great concert halls. CD recordings and symphony concerts, as well as the performance of ensemble works for string- and wind-instruments offer an impressive repertoire, ranging from classical to contemporary.

In addition to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe`s major orchestral programs, chamber music remains a central focus of the individual orchestra members, since it is seen as the root to achieving a constantly renewable tonal transparency and musical intensity, with which the orchestra is identified.
